Chinese Mining Pools Move To Block SegWit On Litecoin Network What is peculiar is how LTC1BTC suddenly increases hashpower to 404 GH/s. Just a few days ago, that number was much lower. It was only a matter of time until a new conspiracy theory showed up in the cryptocurrency world. Now that litecoin is getting close to activating SegWit, some people are growing concerned. To be more specific, they feel the anti-SegWit pools are increasing their hashpower to continue opposing this solution. It is unclear if that is what is happening, yet it is a worrisome thought. Intesa Sanpaolo Trials Data Recordkeeping on the Bitcoin Blockchain Italian banking conglomerate Banca Intesa Sanpaolo has tested a blockchain-based tool as part of a bid to validate trading data. The bank, along with Deloitte and startup Eternity Wall, began testing the new proof-of-concept late last year. At the heart of the project is the open-source  OpenTimeStamps  protocol, developed by Bitcoin Core contributor Peter Todd, which Eternity Wall later  moved to implement . It uses the bitcoin blockchain as means to notarize transactions, creating a publicly available record trail for later referral. Japanese City Seeks Bitcoin Donations to Preserve Historic Park Stan Higgins   As part of a bid to preserve a historic park, a city in Japan is reportedly raising donations in bitcoin. The city of Hirosaki, according to a report from national public broadcaster NHK, is collecting funds to maintain more than 2,000 cherry blossom trees, as well as a centuries-old castle. Supporting the measure is Tokyo-based bitcoin wallet and exchange service  Coincheck . According to figures posted on its website, 0.5749 BTC has so far been raised (worth roughly $720 at press time) from 40 contributors. While small, the amount would no doubt help chip away at the expenses of the park in Hirosaki, as NHK reports the municipality spends hundreds of thousands of dollars per year on upkeep. Lawmakers Want to See Bitcoin Become an Official Currency in Australia Lawmakers in Australia are reportedly pushing for the recognition of bitcoin as an official currency. According the  Sydney Morning Herald , representatives from the country's centre and left-leaning political parties are behind the ambitious initiative, one that comes amid a broader call for the government to better accommodate  blockchain technology  and its evangelists. Leading the effort are Liberal Senator Jane Hume and Labor Senator Sam Dastyari, who are arguing that Australia should be more proactive about both cryptocurrencies and blockchain. As part of those efforts, Hume and Dastyari have formed a group, dubbed Parliamentary Friends of Blockchain, to advance the issue.
