Arizona Bitcoin Trader in Custody Following Police Raid

A bitcoin advocate and trader in Arizona remains in custody after his home was raided last week by federal officials.
Thomas Costanzo was arrested on 20th April during the raid after law enforcement discovered that he was in possession of ammunition – a reported violation of an agreement stemming from a prior conviction.
Costanzo, who also goes by the name "Morpheus Titania", operates a bitcoin website, through which he offers trading services, as well as ATM and mining products.
Court documents obtained by CoinDesk reveal that US Magistrate Michelle Burns has ordered Costanzo to stay in custody until trial following a hearing held today. According to the document, Costanzo has been deemed a "serious flight risk", with Burns citing his past criminal history and "a record of prior failure to appear in court as ordered", according to the document.
As previously reported, officials, led by the Department of Homeland Security, obtained a search warrant that granted them permission to seize assets including the cryptocurrencies bitcoin, ethereum and dash, as well as software related to digital currency. However, to date, Costanzo has only been charged for unlawful possession of ammunition.
Maria Weidner, a public defender representing Costanzo, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

10 Insurance Firms Test Blockchain for Insurance in China A group of insurance companies has completed a new blockchain trial in China. In a  Sina Finance   report, the news agency revealed that the Shanghai Insurance Exchange had initiated a blockchain trial centered on insurance businesses in the country. Indian Narcotics Agent Accused of Stealing Seized Bitcoins Reports are emerging that an agent for an Indian law enforcement agency has been arrested for stealing bitcoins tied to a drug bust. According to the  Times of India , an officer for the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is alleged to helped steal more than 400 bitcoins originally confiscated during a 2015 seizure. Specifically, investigator Satyendra Kumar Singh is said to have been accused of unfreezing those funds at the behest of one of those arrested. The media source claimed that it was the first such case in India – though the cryptocurrency world is  no stranger  to rogue agents siphoning bitcoins obtained during criminal investigations. You Can Now Type the Bitcoin 'B' Symbol in Unicode Text A decades-old computer character standard has been updated with a symbol for bitcoin. The Unicode Consortium  unveiled  Unicode version 10.0, 19/06/2017 which includes the bitcoin "B" symbol. Overall, the update includes 8,518 characters, along with 56 new emojis. The move comes more than a year and a half after the Unicode Consortium, which oversees the Unicode computing text standard,  approved a proposal  that itself constituted a years-long process.  Efforts  toward a bitcoin Unicode symbol date back to as early as 2011. The proposal, submitted by technology blogger Ken Shirriff, was actually the second to be considered by the Consortium. An earlier push by Sander van Galoven of the Netherlands was rejected by the organization.

Illinois Government Sponsors Month-Long Blockchain Hackathon The state of Illinois is backing an upcoming blockchain hackathon. The IBI Hack, a month-long virtual hackathon set to begin on 1st July, is being organized by the Illinois Blockchain Initiative along with blockchain technology startup Fulcrum.  The event is open  to students and recent university graduates from around the world, with all entries due on 31st  July.
