Bitcoin Price Passes $1,800 to Hit New Record High

Bitcoin's price rose above $1,800 this morning, setting a new all-time high, according to data from the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (BPI).
Average prices reached as high as $1,839.23, BPI data shows, after beginning the session at $1,732.13. Prices are currently at an average of around $1,824 and up nearly 4% for the session so far.
Notably, the move past $1,800 comes just over a day after the BPI rose above $1,700 for the first time ever.
Other cryptocurrencies, too, have seen major gains in recent days. Some market watchers believe that a recent influx of new capital into the market is driving the price growth, and that activity in over-the-counter trades is increasing as well.

Federal Agents Raid Home of Arizona Bitcoin Trader Stan Higgins A bitcoin advocate and trader based in Arizona was arrested last week by federal authorities, according to local reports. Reports from websites include  Freedom’s  Phoenix  and  Phoenix New Times  indicate that Thomas Costanzo was arrested on 20th April for unlawful possession of ammunition stemming from a prior conviction. The arrest resulted from a home raid led by the US Department of Homeland Security. Yet warrant documents obtained by Freedom’s Phoenix suggest that authorities are investigating other aspects of Costanzo’s activities, including his use or sale of digital currencies including bitcoin, ethereum and dash. UnitedHealth is seeking a "director of blockchain platforms and applications development", according to  a job posting  earlier this month. The hire would work for Optum, an IT-focused subsidiary of the insurer. It’s the first indication that UnitedHealth – the biggest of its kind in the US and number six on the  Fortune 500  list – is looking at blockchain. Indian Narcotics Agent Accused of Stealing Seized Bitcoins Reports are emerging that an agent for an Indian law enforcement agency has been arrested for stealing bitcoins tied to a drug bust. According to the  Times of India , an officer for the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is alleged to helped steal more than 400 bitcoins originally confiscated during a 2015 seizure. Specifically, investigator Satyendra Kumar Singh is said to have been accused of unfreezing those funds at the behest of one of those arrested. The media source claimed that it was the first such case in India – though the cryptocurrency world is  no stranger  to rogue agents siphoning bitcoins obtained during criminal investigations.
